College & Career Testing
Admissions Testing
While many colleges are test optional for admissions, they will still use ACT & SAT test scores to help admit candidates and offer academic scholarships to qualifying candidates. More competitive schools are now requiring ACT or SAT scores.
The ACT is given on scheduled Saturdays at MHS and the SAT is given on Saturdays at LCHS.

The current ACT & SAT schedule is located on the next page. Use the links below to sign up for an exam or to access or send current student scores.
Test Prep Resources
Placement Testing

Texas public colleges now require the TSI placement test prior to enrollment if college-ready SAT or ACT scores have not been achieved or submitted. This test does not prevent admission, but allows advisors to place students in academically appropriate courses. The chart indicates college ready scores that will allow you to exempt the TSI exam.
Seniors can sign up for a TSI at MHS here.
Pay for your TSI exam in MySchoolBucks.
Use the icon to send TSI scores to college. Here are instructions for that process.

College Decisions
Finding the Right College

The right college
Search colleges in the Schoollinks school search under the left colleges tab. Each MISD student is allowed two absences during their junior and senior year to visit colleges. To arrange a college visit, go to the school's website and schedule a tour. Be sure to bring back a dated confirmation of visit from the admissions office when you return to school to excuse your absence.
High School Resume

Every student should have a resume that lists their activities and accomplishments during their high school years. This resume is helpful when asking teachers for letters of recommendation. The resume gives them all the information they need to write a knowledgable letter. Students can use resume templates available in Office365, Google or Canva.
Letters of Recommedation
Letters of recommendation are helpful when applying to college and for scholarships. It is best to get two or three letters of recommendation from the following: teachers, counselors, administrators, coaches and/or sponsors, and someone who has worked with you outside school. CommonApp will automatically send a request via email to recommenders you list in your application.
Please use these courteous guidelines when requesting letters of recommendation:
Safety Schools
Schools that your SAT/ACT/GPA are above the freshman admissions standards.
Have 2-3 on your list
Match Schools
Schools that your SAT/ACT/GPA match the freshman admissions standards
These are a "perfect fit"
Have 3-4 on your list
Reach Schools
Your dream school that would be a challenge to get into due to your SAT/ACT/GPA or college resume
Have 1-2 on your list

Always check the school to which you are applying for current admissions deadlines!
Applying to College
Submitting Applications
Students must submit college applications by the deadline for that college. Applications open on August 1st prior to your senior year. Late submissions are not accepted. Students do not have to have all their supporting documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation, SAT/ACT scores) to submit the application but required essays must be completed and submitted with the application. Once you submit an applicacation, the school that you are applying to will reach out to you through the email you used in the application to confirm submission and provide information to set up your school applicant portal. Once this is achieved, the school will make it clear as to your next steps in the application process. You must check your email and applicant portals 2-3 times per week to insure that you take steps necessary to complete the application process. The exact process will differ by school.
Most colleges accept applicants from a universal application such as Common App or ApplyTexas (Texas colleges only). Click the icons to see the list of schools that use that application. Click on the test icon to access the application and get started on yours today!
What's Next?
Once you have submitted your application and paid your application fee, you must set up an applicant portal for the school(s) to which you applied according to the instructions sent to you in an email directly from that school. This portal will contain an applicant checklist that you must satisfy in a timely fashion. These items may include:
Please check your email & portal often for updates.
The icons below will help you take care of these requirements.

Scholarships & Financial Support
Scholarships
Scholarships are available mosty during the students' senior year with national scholarships having earlier deadlines than local ones. MISD collects scholarships and organizes them by due date in a scholarship database. Seniors also can access all scholarship applications under the finances icon in Schoollinks.

MISD Local Scholarship
Application
The MISD local scholarship application is one application that awards over $25,000 in scholarships to each high school yearly. The local scholarship application opens January 15th and closes February 28th.
National scholarship matching applications and search engines can help students find national scholarships. Students must create an account with the matching applications to find scholarships for which they are qualified. In addition, RaiseMe allows students to accumulate microscholarships throughout all four years of high school.
TASFA
Students classified as Texas residents who are not eligible to apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are encouraged to complete the TASFA. The federal application covers federal and state financial aid opportunities. If you meet the FAFSA filing requirements, then you should submit a completed FAFSA. YOU DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE BOTH THE FAFSA AND TASFA. TAFSA & FAFSA deadlines are the same.
